Steps For Cleaning An Outdoor Awning


Installing an outdoor awning in your window, doorway, porch, or garden is a great way to add interest to your home’s exterior. You can choose an awning with cool patterns and nice colors and it will greatly improve your home’s appearance. Aside from making your home look nicer, it also gives you additional outdoor space that you can sue for different purposes like for holding a party, entertaining guests, relaxing, and so on.


Outdoor awning is really adds a nice touch to your home’s exterior. And because of this, you should make sure that it looks clean and nice at all times. If you do not have any idea how to clean your awning, here are the basic steps.

  1. The first thing that you need to do is to gather all the materials that you will need. You will need a ladder, broom, brush, bucket, water, dish detergent or vinegar, and hose. You might also need an extra helping hand.
  2. Once you have gathered all your materials, you should now prepare the cleaning solution. Pour water in your bucket and add a small amount of dish detergent or vinegar. Try the solution on the small and hidden part of your awning to make sure that it will not cause any damage to the awning. If you think it is safe to use, proceed to number three. If not, find another cleaner that is milder and repeat step two.
  3. Climb up the ladder and take the broom with you. Sweep off bigger debris and dirt like fallen dried leaves, stones, etc. before you wash your awning with water.
  4. Once you have cleaned up the bigger particles, ask your cleaning partner to give you the bucket filled with your cleaning solution and brush. Scrub the surface of the awning thoroughly.
  5. After removing all the dirt and stain, rinse off the soapy water by spraying it with water using your hose. Let it dry. Your awning will now look as good as new.
